Lummus/Versalis Cumene Technology Selected for IOCL’s New 440,000 TPY Unit in Paradip, India

IndianOil Corp. Ltd (IOCL) has recently announced the selection of Lummus/Versalis cumene technology for a new 440,000 tpy unit in Paradip, India. This is part of a grassroots petrochemical and polymers expansion at IOCL’s complex in Paradip.

Lummus Technology is thrilled to be selected for this project as it will offer IOCL lower energy costs, reliability, operational efficiency, and exceptional product yield. These benefits will help IOCL optimize their plant economics and support their growth initiatives. “We are excited to continue working with IOCL on this project and build on our long-time relationship,” said Romain Lemoine, Chief Business Officer for Polymers and Petrochemicals at Lummus Technology.

Lummus’ scope for the project includes the technology license for the cumene technology, basic design engineering, proprietary catalyst, site services, advisory services, and training. IOCL has licensed multiple Lummus technologies at complexes across India before, including naphtha cracker, INDMAX FCC, and polypropylene technologies.

Lummus and Versalis have been partnering to license cumene technologies since 2007. The cumene process is a liquid-phase alkylation technology using a proprietary zeolite catalyst and is characterized by a very high cumene yield, ultra-high purity cumene product, and a long catalyst run length. This partnership has helped both companies establish themselves as leaders in the downstream industry.
