3 High School Stars Earn Grand Prizes at 2024 Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair

Fairfax students dominate at Virginia science and engineering fair

The 2024 Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair was held at Old Dominion University and saw talented students from three well-known high schools in the state receive grand-prize awards. These students, hailing from James Madison High School, George C. Marshall High School, and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology, have earned the opportunity to compete at the prestigious International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles.

The grand-prize winners were recognized for their remarkable achievements in science and engineering. Wesley Kang from Madison High School received an award for his project on predicting wastewater induced earthquakes using a unique mathematical model. Anant Khandelwal, Sritan Motati, and Siddhant Sood from Thomas Jefferson High School were recognized for their project on diffusion-based conditional mesh synthesis for efficient 3D prototyping. Gabriela Konde from Marshall High School won an award for her project on optimal sound frequencies for eradicating E. coli biofilm on medical devices. Valeria Novoa from Madison High School was awarded for her project on optimizing graphitic carbon nitride for hydrogen storage.
