Empowering Vulnerable Populations: How the Office of Public Health is Promoting Inclusivity and Health Equity through a Community Survey

Montgomery County, Pa. urges residents to participate in health survey

The Office of Public Health has launched a survey and promotional materials in several languages to ensure inclusivity in the community. Arabic, Bengali, Chinese – Hong Kong, Simplified Chinese, Gujarati, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese are among the languages that have been translated. County Commissioner Jamila Winder emphasized the importance of inclusivity and highlighted the need to prioritize vulnerable populations such as seniors, people of color and LGBTQ+ community members who have historically faced health inequities.

Community members are encouraged to respond to the survey until May 15th with an aim of reaching 5,500 participants. The results from this assessment will be published online in the summer with the potential to drive policy and legislative changes. Winder stated that this information will guide commissioners in setting policies and working with the Office of Public Health and Health and Human Services to focus their efforts effectively.

By investing just 10 minutes to complete the survey, residents can significantly impact the work done by the Office of Public Health for the next three years. County Commissioner Miller highlighted the value of residents’ input in shaping public health initiatives. This collaborative effort between community members and government agencies aims to address the needs of vulnerable populations and promote health equity across the county.
