DoubleTree by Hilton Hosts Outstanding Campus Awards Ceremony: Recognizing Excellence in Science, Diversity, and Leadership

The DoubleTree by Hilton was the location of the 2024 Impact and Excellence Awards, where several individuals and organizations were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the campus. The Super Science Club was awarded Outstanding Club or Organization of the Year, with club president Bryant Pepe accepting the award on stage along with nine members and advisors. Pepe, a third-year physics and earth science student, expressed his excitement at winning the award and emphasized the club’s commitment to providing a positive experience for students and the community.

In addition to the Super Science Club, Adventure Society President Ben Surosky was recognized as Outstanding Club or Organization Member of the Year. Surosky, a third-year Spanish student, credited the success of the club to the leadership of last year’s president, Jasim McNichols. He noted that the strong foundation laid by McNichols had allowed the club to undertake new and exciting initiatives.

Two faculty members, history professor Richard Hardesty and physical sciences professor Katherine Keough, won Teaching Excellence Awards for their exceptional work in advancing knowledge on campus. Communications professor April Copes and computer information systems professor Cedric Harris received Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Zeitgeist Awards for their exemplary work in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus.

Student Government Association Executive Vice President Rabiyatou Bah was recognized as Student Achievement and Success Program Student of the Year for her outstanding achievements in environmental science studies while also serving as a member of organizing committee. Bah expressed her gratitude at receiving this recognition while expressing surprise at winning it since she did not expect it
